The Soloway Jewish Community Centre is a gathering place for all people to come together in a spirit of diversity, respect and inclusiveness. The Soloway JCC serves thousands of community residents, young and old alike, through educational, cultural, recreational and social programs.

With the support of our generous sponsors and fundraising initiatives the Soloway JCC provides over $90,000 in scholarships annually to families and individuals who financially are unable to cover the cost of membership and preschool.

The Soloway JCC’s annual Send-a-Kid-to-Camp campaign gives more than 30 children, whose families can not afford summer camp, unforgettable summer experiences and friendships that last a lifetime.

Through specialty fitness programs such as AquaCan, Post Stroke Aquafit, and Heartsjcc_elderly Wise Exercise Programs, in conjunction with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, participants with cancer, stroke survivors and those who suffer with cardiac disease have a safe place to exercise. In addition to the physical benefits, these classes provide participants with invaluable peer support.

The Soloway JCC aquatics department offers programs for children with special needs including Aquatic Adventures for Autistic Children and Private or Group Lessons for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired. These classes are taught by lifeguards with special training in these areas.sjcc_fitness

For more than 60 years the Soloway JCC has been promoting positive, healthy ideals for all members of our community with an emphasis on community involvement.

Citizen Advocacy

Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa - 36 years serving our communityca_2

Founded in 1974, Citizen Advocacy is a community-based charity providing services to people with disabilities residing in the City of Ottawa. Their vision is of a community that welcomes and values the participation and contribution of all of its citizens, including those who live with disabilities. Citizen Advocacy’s focuses resources on individuals who may be vulnerable because they lack a support network or who may have difficulty accessing needed services.

Citizen Advocacy is one of only a few local agencies supporting people ca_1of all ages across the disability spectrum, including physical limitations, intellectual disability, mental illness and disabilities related to age (i.e. Alzheimer’s).

Many of the people who benefit from Citizen Advocacy’s support have supports that are paid to be in their lives, but not people who choose to be in their lives. Citizen Advocacy turns this situation around by matching a volunteer (“advocate”), one-on-one or as a team, to a person with a disability (“protégé”). More than 2000 matches have been supported since 1974.

Matches participate weekly in activities they both enjoy. Volunteer aca_3dvocates offer companionship and assistance with a variety of issues, including housing, budgeting, relationships, and more. As a result, the people we support are less alone, feel better about themselves, and are less vulnerable. They have someone to turn to – someone they can trust.
